What it is
Zeno is an AI platform for legal work built around Dutch and EU law. It handles legal research with cited sources, document and contract analysis, and drafting inside a single environment. The company is Zeno B.V., based in Rotterdam, Netherlands, founded in 2024 by Raoul Bouchrit, Andreas Lepidis and Nordin Bouchrit, and raised €2M from Chris Oomen, founder of trading firm Optiver.
Who It’s For
Zeno is aimed at law firms, corporate legal teams and notaries working under Dutch and EU law. The vendor positions the product as a legal-specific system rather than a general chatbot, and reports that HVG Law selected Zeno firm-wide after a pilot, moving from general-purpose AI to a tool integrated with Dutch and EU sources.
What It Does
- Legal research. Answers complex legal queries across Dutch and EU law, returning responses with cited sources and visible reasoning rather than unsourced text. (Maps to Research & Analysis.)
- Document and contract analysis. Reviews documents against defined criteria — preferred legal positions, applicable law, or internal policies. (Maps to Document Review & Management.)
- Clause comparison. Extracts and compares clauses, deadlines and metadata across multiple contracts (the vendor cites up to 50) in a table-based view. (Maps to Document Review & Management.)
- Drafting. Drafts legal text in-document, with user-defined writing styles and answer profiles to set preferred response styles. (Maps to Document Drafting & Automation.)
- Document-system integrations. Connects to document management systems including NetDocuments, SharePoint and Epona so documents can be accessed within existing workflows. (Maps to Communication & Collaboration.)
The vendor states that data stays within the European Union, that user inputs are not used to train models, and that the platform holds ISO 27001, ISO 27017 and ISO 27018 certifications, is GDPR compliant, and has been independently penetration tested.
What We Haven’t Verified
This page was assembled from the vendor’s own site and third-party listings; we have not independently tested the product. The €2M figure is the publicly reported funding headline; we have not confirmed total funding to date or any valuation. The HVG Law relationship comes from the vendor’s own blog post and we have not separately confirmed its scope. The NetDocuments, SharePoint and Epona integrations and the “up to 50 contracts” clause-comparison limit come from a third-party vendor listing rather than hands-on testing, so they are marked as claimed. The ISO certifications and security claims are the vendor’s statements and we have not independently verified the certificates. Note that “Zeno” is a name shared with unrelated companies (including Zeno Group in PR and Zeno Health); this entry refers only to the Rotterdam-based legal AI company at zeno.law. Feature claims and workflow mappings reflect what the vendor publishes, not hands-on testing.
