What It Does

Microsoft Purview eDiscovery is a set of eDiscovery tools within Microsoft Purview, part of the Microsoft 365 stack. It is used to identify, hold, review and export content stored in Microsoft 365 services to support investigations and legal cases. It searches across Exchange Online, OneDrive for Business, SharePoint Online, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft 365 Groups and Viva Engage.

What We Found

Per Microsoft’s documentation, Purview offers tiered eDiscovery capabilities: Content Search (basic search and export), eDiscovery Standard (cases, eDiscovery managers and legal holds), and eDiscovery Premium (advanced analytics for complex investigations). It is a Microsoft product rather than an independent vendor, and is most relevant to organisations already on Microsoft 365 that want in-platform discovery rather than a third-party eDiscovery tool. Reviewers note it works well within the Microsoft estate but does not reach data outside it.
